KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Authorities have confirmed that the body found in a shallow grave in Mississippi is that of La’Datra Williams, a Kansas City woman who had been missing for months.
Williams, a 26-year-old mother of four, had lived in Kansas City for the past decade before traveling to Mississippi.
“We love her and she loved everyone,” said her father, Eddie Williams, who reported her missing in May.
Eddie Williams explained that his daughter had gone to Mississippi to end an abusive relationship with her children’s father, Charles Sims.
Sims has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond.
The Lawrence County Sheriff stated that Williams’ body was discovered a month ago, but it took time to identify her remains.
Eddie Williams expressed frustration over the delay in finding his daughter’s body and bringing Sims to justice.
“I don’t know if her life could’ve been saved or not, but I do know her remains could’ve been recovered,” he said.
Despite living in Kansas City, La’Datra Williams will be laid to rest in Mississippi, where much of her family resides.
La’Datra Williams leaves behind a community of loved ones who remember her fondly, as her father noted, “She lit enough candles while she was alive to keep that fire going.”
