A brand-new plaza is opening in downtown Tinley Park Friday, with an outdoor concert stage, fire pits, a turf lawn, a synthetic ice rink for ice skating and curling in the wintertime and more, the village said.
The new multi-use “Harmony Square” covers 1.6 acres, the village said, with buildings already lining the plaza, including a rooftop bar and a “near-replication” of Teehan’s, the storied Tinley Park tavern originally built in the 1850s. In addition to retail, the buildings will serve as a backstage area for bands, a spot for skate rentals in the winter and more.
The village will host a grand opening celebration for Harmony Square, located at 6700 North St., beginning at 7 p.m. Friday with concerts, food and more. Over the weekend, the village will host its annual Block Party at the new plaza, officials said.
“Visitors can bring small coolers and chairs,” the village said. “Everyone is invited to come out and help celebrate!”
According to officials, Harmony Square will have year-round events, including movies in the park, community gatherings, seasonal light shows and more. An events page can be found here.
