Berlin (dpa) Ahead of the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, Germany and other European states have issued a joint statement. In it, they say that the “path to peace” cannot be decided without Kyiv. International borders must not be changed by force, according to the joint statement released by Germany, France, Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom, Finland and the European Commission. Ukraine has the freedom of choice over its own destiny, assert the signatories, who include Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Trump is to meet with Putin in Alaska on 15 August. At the meeting, the two leaders will discuss the war against Ukraine. It is uncertain whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will also be invited to Alaska.
