On most weekends, ESPN Radio’s Marty Smith and Ryan McGee talk about college football and southern culture on their hit show “Marty & McGee” (also seen on SEC Network).
So it made sense for the duo to head to CMA Fest to broadcast their show and interview country music’s hottest artists.
“It’s our people!,” McGee told On The Red Carpet.
The team compiled their interviews for the “Marty & McGee CMA Fest Special.”
“We’re massive country music fans and last year we came to CMA Fest and we did a little trial run of doing an hour-long special on SEC Network interviewing country artists. And it was so successful, we came back again this year and we added our show which airs on Saturday mornings on SEC Network and taped it here and just absolutely incredible,” Smith said.
The special features chats with Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker and Keith Urban, among others. But one interview left McGee nearly speechless!
“We interviewed Brooks & Dunn. And we both are very fortunate because of this job, we’re in the orbit of a lot of really famous people, so you don’t get starstruck. But I had such an out-of-body experience while Brooks & Dunn were answering a question I just asked, it was like I was watching on television going, ‘This is Brooks & Dunn!’ So yeah we don’t get starstruck but there are moments here where we definitely get starstruck,” he said.
“Marty & McGee CMA Fest Special” is streaming now on the ESPN app.
