A surge of monsoonal moisture is bringing a slight chance of thunderstorms to Los Angeles County and the Ventura County mountains, forecasters said.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 15 to 30% chance of monsoonal thunderstorms in the area. If storms develop, officials warn they could bring localized flash flooding, especially in the mountains and Antelope Valley, as well as the risk of dry lightning, which could spark wildfires.
The best chance for storms is expected Friday afternoon and evening, as daytime heating increases atmospheric instability. The San Gabriel Mountains, Antelope Valley and Ventura County mountains are the most likely areas to be impacted. There’s also a slight chance that storms could drift into nearby foothill communities, according to NWS.
Looking ahead to the weekend, forecasters expect calmer conditions.
A stray thunderstorm remains possible Saturday in the eastern L.A. County mountains, but most areas will stay dry with near-normal temperatures. Sunday will bring similar weather with even lower storm chances.
