Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz received one of the toughest possible opening matchups in a star-studded US Open mixed doubles event since they drew top seeds Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper.
On Sunday, the US Open released the main draw for their highly anticipated mixed doubles tournament. Since Raducanu and Alcaraz are arguably the most attractive pair to take part in the event, their draw was always going to get the most attention. And they already know the schedule of their match as they will take to the court on Tuesday as the fourth scheduled match on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Alcaraz said Raducanu would be ‘the boss’ in their US Open pairing
After arriving to the Queen’s Club to start his grass season, Alcaraz was instantly asked about teaming up with the 22-year-old Briton in New York.
“She (Emma) is gonna be the boss,” the five-time Grand Slam champion said at the time.
In the same interview, Alcaraz admitted that he was the one who made the first move and reached out to Raducanu, asking if she was willing to be his mixed doubles partner at Flushing Meadows.
“When the tournament told us about the mixed tournament, I just asked Emma if she wants to play doubles with me. Yeah, I made that special request. She took a while. Not that much [time], but obviously she had to ask, and she had to think a little bit… I think it’s going to be great. It was an amazing idea for the tournament. I know Emma since a really long time ago, so we know each other. I have a really good relationship with her. So it’s just gonna be interesting,” the Spaniard said at the time.
If Raducanu and Alcaraz win their opening US Open mixed doubles match, they will meet in the quarterfinal either Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic or Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev.
