Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has been humming along this season, and he made more history with a huge game Thursday.
During an 8-1 Cubs win over the Minnesota Twins Thursday, Crow-Armstrong went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI’s, putting him at 25 home runs and 70 RBI’s for the season.
According to Marquee Sports Network, Crow-Armstrong is the only player in MLB history to hit 25 home runs, steal 25 bases and drive in 70 RBI’s before the All-Star break.
The Associated Press also reported Thursday that Crow-Armstrong only took 92 games to reach the 25/25 level in home runs and stolen bases, the fourth-fastest in baseball history.
Eric Davis hit that mark in 69 games during the 1989 season, while Alfonso Soriano (2002) and Bobby Bonds (91) took 91 games to hit the mark.
Finally, OptaSTATS found that Crow-Armstrong is the seventh player in MLB history with at least five multi-home run games and five multi-stolen base games in the same season. His 92 games to hit those marks are the fewest of any player in MLB history.
Crow-Armstrong is slashing .271/.309/.560 on the season, and has a 5.0 Wins Above Replacement, according to Baseball Reference. That ranks him second in Major League Baseball and in the top spot in the National League, trailing only New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge.
Fangraphs has Crow-Armstrong as the league’s best outfielder in terms of defensive runs saved at 12.8, capturing the incredible performance he’s putting on in center field as well.
Crow-Armstrong will represent the Cubs at next week’s All-Star Game in Atlanta, earning a start in his first-ever Midsummer Classic thanks to fan voting results released last week.
