LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky football and baseball each landed their highest commit of the class of 2026 on Sunday evening. Matt Ponatoski, the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year in both football and baseball, chose Kentucky over Arkansas, Alabama, and Oregon.
On the gridiron Ponatoski plays quarterback and had a monster junior season. On the season he completed 282 of 406 passes (completion percentage of 69.4%), while also throwing for 3,456 yards with 57 touchdown passes to only 3 interceptions. He is a four star recruit and the 21st best quarterback in the class of 2026 according to 247sports.
As a baseball player he plays in the infield. In his junior season he had a batting average of .440, 7 doubles, 4 home runs, 38 runs batted in, and 12 stolen bases. According to Baseball America, Ponatoski is the 16th ranked high school player in the class of 2026 and is 1st in the state of Ohio.
