ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Glass sits shattered on the ground, and windows are boarded up at a home near Eubank and Menaul. A neighborhood is picking up the pieces after a house explosion earlier this week that officials believe was caused by a large amount of fireworks.
“My house was burned. It’s in the inside it’s got to be gutted,” said Holly Summers, owner.
As you walk into Holly Summers’ home, black soot covers the tattered walls, and debris is strewn across the living room and kitchen. “You can feel the heat from here,” said Jay Kruger in a TikTok video capturing the flames.
On Wednesday afternoon, Summers got a call that her neighbor’s house had exploded and that her home was on fire. Despite a few key items, Summers said she lost everything.
“I was able to salvage my clothes. They were at the far end of the house, and there’s soot all over that bedroom. But I was able to salvage them, and I’ve been washing them, and I think I’m getting the smoke smell out,” said Summers.
In the midst of the destruction shown in Sky News 13 footage, Summers is grateful to be reunited with Ursy, her brindle and white terrier, who went missing after the explosion.
“The night of the fire, I was worried and could hardly sleep,” said Summers.
The next day, a nearby good Samaritan came looking for Summers. “He just came here to my house and asked me if I was missing a dog. I showed him a picture, and he said, ‘Yep, that’s her,'” said Summers.
Ursy was found hiding in a bush after the explosion and was reunited with Summers Thursday evening. “Other humans and our beloved pets. I mean, that’s all that matters in this world. Our stuff does not matter, and it doesn’t matter one bit. I don’t even miss it,” said Summers.
Two people were injured in the explosion and were taken to the hospital. Their condition is not known at this time.
