In the opening round of the class 4A playoffs on Wednesday, #6 seed Dixie High was pushed to the brink by #11 Cedar, while #10 Desert Hills pulled off an upset of #7 Snow Canyon.

Dixie 1 (5), Cedar 1 (4)

At Dixie High, the #6 seeded Flyers needed penalty kicks in order to keep their season alive.

Dixie led 1-0 at halftime but Cedar responded with a goal from Rylan Tebbs in the 52nd minute to tie the game.

After the rest of regulation and extra time failed to yield a winner, the Flyers and Reds went into penalty shootouts.

Both teams scored on each of their first four shots, but an attempt by Elsa Christiansen sailed high, opening the door for Allee Williams, who placed a shot perfectly under the bar beyond the outstretched glove of keeper Lindsey Brown.

“After Cedar missed their fifth shot I knew I had a chance to win the game for my team,” said Williams. “At practice, we have been practicing taking PKs and I was very confident in taking my PK. As I walked up to the PK line, I wasn’t nervous. I knew I was going to kick the ball to the left with power.”
