Norwegian offshore wind installation player Fred Olsen Windcarrier has been selected by Skyborn Renewables, a German offshore wind developer of Blackrock’s Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), to handle transport and installation of the wind turbines for the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.
The two companies are targeting to firm up the deal later in 2025.
Installation at sea is planned for 2028. Brave Tern, one of the four heavylift installation vessels operated by Fred Olsen Windcarrier, will deploy all 63 turbines at the site.
Once completed, the Gennaker facility is set to deliver up to 976.5 MW, making it the largest offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. Skyborn first secured its building permit in May 2019 and retains site exclusivity.
