DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Broncos released their new uniforms over a year ago, and now the iconic launch is going down in history with an Emmy Award.
In late July, some Broncos players and staff members won the 2025 Heartland Emmy Award after launching the new throwback uniform hype video in 2024.
The Broncos released new uniforms in 2024 with three new colors, but many fans were hoping for the “Orange Crush” throwback uniforms that were worn in 1977. After the team released the first new primary uniforms in 20 years, the Broncos released a video dropping a 1977-inspired uniform.
And it was released in style.
The nearly two-minute video starts with cornerback Patrick Surtain II driving through Denver in a Ford Bronco. He pulls up to a store, and when he walks in, he’s transported back in time to presumably the ’70s, showing an old Bronco outside.
Surtain sorts through clothes in the store before former Broncos player Randy Gradishar comes on screen and asks if he can help with anything.
“I don’t know, I’m kind of rocking with this, maybe something to go with it? What you think?” said Surtain in the video as he pulls out the orange throwback jersey.
“Yeah, well, I think I have something for you,” Gradishar responded as he pulled out a matching helmet. “You’ve been waiting for this.”
Surtain put on the helmet, which transformed into the current Broncos players stunting the full throwback uniform, which queued short plays of the Broncos when they wore the uniforms in 1977.
More than a year later, the video went down in history.
Gradishar and Surtain were among the winners for the sports promotion category in the “1977 Throwback Uniform Launch.” Some staff producers were also named, including Austin Brink, Hailey Sullivan, Erich Schubert, Aaron Gunning, Reid Conant, Joe Abdellah and Noelle Anderson.
Some of the Broncos staff members also won awards for the one-time special “Super Bowl XXXIII: Back-to-Back,” the sports tease for the “1977 Broncos Throwback Team Open,” and the short-form content Broncos’ primary uniform launch.
