The sister of the victim in a hit-and-run made an emotional plea to the public Friday as the search for the suspect ramped up in Northwest Miami-Dade.
Samuel Lee Singletary, 67, was riding his bicycle when a driver struck and killed him. It happened in the 9200 block of northwest 7th Avenue on Tuesday around 9:15 p.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies returned to the scene of the crash Friday to pass out flyers in their effort to find the suspect.
The victim’s younger sister Dorothy Isler and other loved ones joined deputies as they handed out the flyers.
“He would smile, he had that weird laugh. You know, he was a loving brother,” said Isler when describing her older brother. “We will miss him terribly.”
The flyers being handed out feature a picture of Singletary. Detectives have few details on the suspect or suspect’s car, only saying it was dark sedan of an unknown make. They said the car also has front-end and windshield damage.
Police said the victim was found unresponsive at the scene and later died at the hospital.
Deputies said the victim went airborne when he was mowed down. This is a major clue that speed was a factor in the crash, according to police.
“I don’t know when this cruelty is going to end, hitting and running. It needs to end and end now. So, please come forward,” Isler pleaded.
