The monsoon continues to be very active across New Mexico to start the week. Daily storm chances will continue into the end of this week.
It’s been a very active weather day Monday in parts of New Mexico. Storms dropped heavy rainfall in parts of the state. Wind gusts up to 66 mph blew into Albuquerque even causing a significant dust storm, with visibility less than a quarter mile at times. High winds also caused a haboob down near Deming. Most of the rain has ended tonight, but a few storms are still clearing out of southern New Mexico. Some rain may redevelop tonight in southeast New Mexico through Tuesday morning.
Cloudy skies could limit heavier rainfall in eastern New Mexico Tuesday afternoon. However, places that see sunshine will have a higher chance at thunderstorms and heavy rain. Regardless, there will be widespread chances for rain and storms again Tuesday afternoon.
A more traditional monsoon pattern will return Wednesday with moisture streaming into New Mexico from the south. Steering winds will push storms from south to north Wednesday afternoon, with storms first forming over the mountains then drifting northward. Thursday will see storms move from west to east though, with storms again forming over the mountains in the late morning/early afternoon then moving into central and eastern New Mexico later in the day.
Dry weather returns to New Mexico for the Fourth of July as hotter weather also moves in. This stretch of dry and hotter weather will continue into the weekend.
