Two-time PGA Tour winner Corey Conners has been forced to withdraw from US Open at Oakmont due to a bizarre injury blow.
The Canadian had carded rounds of 72, 74 and 72 to put himself in the top 15 at the third major of the year – before was forced to pull out just hours before his final round.
At eight over par, Conners was 12 shots behind Sam Burns’ overnight lead heading into the fourth round at a tough Oakmont, but crucially for him in with a chance of a strong finish and the riches that come with it.
A place in the top 10 would yield an invite to next year’s tournament while a strong showing would give him a decent chunk of the staggering $21.5million prize pot.
A place in the top ten would have brought in at least $500,000 in a season that has already seen him pocket more than $5m.
According to reports, Conners initially suffered the wrist injury during Thursday’s opening round.
He was attempting to play out from a bunker but caught a television cable in doing so, and that injury was aggravated during play on Saturday,
According to Adam Stanley of Sportsnet, Conners went for treatment on Saturday night and what is described as ‘imaging work’.
He was on site at Oakmont on Sunday but was forced to cut short his warm-up and PGA Communications delivered confirmation of his withdrawal.
The 33-year-old had recovered on the opening day to complete his two-over-par round of 72, and followed up with a round of 74 to sit just inside the cut the line and make the weekend.
Conners has enjoyed a steady run in the majors, making the cut in each of the last seven since being cut at the 2023 US Open.
He recorded his best ever finish with a tie-for-eighth place at the Masters earlier this season.

That followed a T9 during last year’s US Open at Pinehurst when Bryson DeChambeau was victorious.
He has had a consistent season on the PGA Tour, making the cut in 14 of his 15 starts with five top 10 finishes.
The Ontario native – a product of Kent State University – has not won since the 2023 Texas Open, the second time he has won the tournament, his only wins on the PGA Tour.
Conners is in the field for next week’s lucrative $20million Travellers Championship and heading into the week at Oakmont was ninth in the FedEx Cup standings.
He had been due to tee off alongside Ryan Fox in the 10.30am EST grouping but having withdrawn, he will now undergo further assessment.
Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler have won the opening two majors of 2025, but an uncompromising US Open challenge had seen a series of unlikely contenders emerge in Pennsylvania.
