The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, in partnership with the Urban League of Louisiana, is launching a new training program designed to help small and emerging construction firms compete for major projects.
The first session of the “Procurement Playbook” series, focused on construction and construction services, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 22 at the Convention Center.
The free workshop will cover electronic estimating, bid preparation, and best practices for securing contracts with the venue.
Organizers said the program is tailored for general contractors and specialized service providers, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, and janitorial businesses. Participants are encouraged to bring laptops and capabilities statements for hands-on activities.
LaToya Martin, the convention center’s Small and Emerging Business Program manager, will host the session, with facilitation from the Urban League’s Frank Johnson and MCDS principal Courtney Elzey.
The initiative is part of the Convention Center’s broader effort to expand opportunities for small and disadvantaged businesses. Since 2019, the Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority, which oversees the venue, has awarded $43 million in contracts to small and disadvantaged vendors.
The SEB program has also launched digital tools such as the SEBconnect website and app, along with quarterly networking events, to connect businesses with potential projects.
Space for the Aug. 22 session is limited, and advance registration is required.
