One of the top players in the country, linebacker Xavier Griffin, has committed to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The Gainesville, GA native is the #27 ranked prospect by the 247 Composite, but is ranked as high as #8 overall by 247’s individual rankings.
Griffin has long been thought to be favoring Alabama, but officially adding him to the top of the recruiting class is a huge boost for Coach DeBoer and the Tide.
He’s something of a Swiss army knife linebacker that’s a little on the light side (6’3”, 200), but has exceptional speed and can play off ball linebacker, edge, and even some slot DB. If you believe his Hudl page, he runs a 4.5 forty yard dash with an exceptional 40” vertical jump. Either way, he’s an extra-elite athlete, and should be viewed as a guy that should be an impact player sooner rather than later at the college level.
Alabama is now solidly in the top group of recruiting classes despite a fairly low volume of commitments. With a number of 5 star players set to announce soon, the Tide could very well push for the top spot yet again very soon if things break their way.
