FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The City of Springfield is inviting qualified teams to submit Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) for architectural services for the proposed Springfield Regional Convention & Event Center in downtown Springfield.
The City is seeking a multidisciplinary design team including architects, interior designers, engineers, and other subject matter experts to provide full design services for the project. The center is envisioned as a major catalyst for downtown growth, featuring exhibit halls, ballrooms, meeting rooms, parking, and on-site gathering spaces, with a design that meets at least LEED Silver certification standards.
SOQs must be received in .pdf format by 4 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025. A pre-submittal meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, in Room L45 of the Busch Municipal Building, 840 Boonville Ave., and via videoconference. Attendance is optional but will be factored into evaluations.
Questions regarding the RFQ should be directed to Tim Rosenbury, AIA, Director of Quality of Place Initiatives, at [email protected]. The full RFQ is available at https://www.springfieldmo.gov/DocumentCenter/View/69534/Convention-and-Event-Center-RFQ—Architects.
On Monday, the City will also publish an RFQ for Construction Manager at Risk (CMaR) services for the project Monday, Aug. 18. This delivery method was approved by City Council on Aug. 11.
The Springfield Regional Convention & Event Center is envisioned as a transformative civic project designed to host conventions, exhibitions, and community events of all sizes. Based on recommendations from a 2025 market and feasibility study by Hunden Partners, the proposed facility would feature a 65,000-square-foot exhibit space, a 30,000-square-foot ballroom, a 14,000-square-foot junior ballroom, and 16,000 square feet of meeting space, all designed for flexible use. Plans also call for approximately 1,000 connected parking spaces, on-site gathering areas, and a design that meets or exceeds LEED Silver certification standards. The center is intended to serve as a catalyst for additional public and private development, strengthen Springfield’s position as a regional event destination, and deliver long-term economic and cultural benefits to the community.
The project would be funded primarily by three contingent sources: a $30 million appropriation from the State of Missouri, a $30 million appropriation of local 1/2-cent sales tax revenue designated for transformative civic projects, and a bond issue repaid by hotel motel license fees to include a new proposed 3% increase in the lodging fee.
