City Manager Blair King is retiring after 45 years of public service including 4 and a half years of service to the City of Bainbridge Island. Friday, Jan. 30 is his last day in the office.
The City of Bainbridge Island operates under a Council-Manager form of government, meaning the City Council selects and hires the City Manager. That process to recruit and select the next City Manager is underway.
The City Council solicited the services of an Executive Search Firm to assist with City Manager recruitment process. The City Council received proposals from eight firms. The Prothman Company was initially selected; however, as the process progressed, the proposed compensation did not align with the anticipated level of effort. As a result, the City Council has terminated that contract pursuant to the terms of the agreement.
The Council’s search subcommittee will reconvene and select two firms from the original eight to interview in a public meeting in February.
In the meantime, Deputy City Manager Ellen Schroer will serve as Acting City Manager until an Interim City Manager is selected. The City Council will interview candidates for Interim City Manager on January 27, with an expected interim start date in late February or March. Candidates will be interviewed in Executive Session in accordance with RCW 42.30.110(1)(g) “to evaluate the qualifications of an applicant for public employment.”
