- Idham will serve as board advisor until 30 November 2025
- He will step down as CelcomDigi’s CEO effective 31 August 2025
The board of directors of CelcomDigi Berhad has announced that Idham Nawawi (pic), who currently serves as CEO of CelcomDigi, will be concluding his service with the company due to personal reasons. In a statement, the company noted that Idham’s tenure ends after three years of leading the management team through the foundational years of integration following the merger of Celcom and Digi on 30 November 2022.
Idham will step down as CelcomDigi’s CEO effective 31 August 2025. To facilitate a smooth leadership transition, deputy CEO Albern Murty will assume the role of acting CEO beginning 1 September 2025, in addition to his responsibilities as deputy CEO. Idham will continue to support the company as advisor to the board until 30 November 2025, working closely with Albern and the leadership team during this transition period.
Idham joined Celcom Axiata Berhad (now known as Celcom Berhad) on 1 September 2018, where he successfully led the company’s transformation, revitalised its performance, and introduced a new way of working. He was also instrumental in driving the Celcom and Digi merger throughout the planning process, culminating in regulatory approvals and the formation of CelcomDigi Berhad.
“On behalf of the board, we would like to thank Idham for leading CelcomDigi in laying the foundation for future growth as Malaysia’s trusted connectivity partner. Idham has agreed to stay on as an advisor to the board to support the transition,” said Azmil Zahruddin bin Raja Abdul Aziz, chair of the board, CelcomDigi.
“We are pleased that Albern has agreed to step in as acting CEO as CelcomDigi continues its transformation journey,” he added.
“It has been an honour to lead CelcomDigi as the founding CEO, including the historic merger of Celcom and Digi—creating the largest telecommunications company in Malaysia and marking a landmark moment in our corporate history. I firmly believe that CelcomDigi is now on a strong footing to propel further as a market leader,” said Idham.
“Personally, this role has been one of the greatest and most unexpected privileges of my career, and I wish CelcomDigi continued success,” he added.
Albern brings over 22 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, including seven years as CEO of Digi.Com Berhad. The board of CelcomDigi will commence a formal search process for the next CEO, considering both internal and external candidates to ensure the strongest possible leadership for the company’s next chapter.
