(KRON) — A car was torched in a solo-vehicle collision on Highway 9 at Sanborn Road Wednesday afternoon with the flames spreading to nearby vegetation. The driver of the vehicle was not injured, said the Santa Clara County Fire Department.
SCCFD said fire crews arrived at the location by 4:24 p.m. Within 20 minutes, crews had knocked down the vehicle fire and stopped forward progress on the grass fire.
Highway 9 was closed in both directions by the California Highway Patrol San Jose Area office as crews cleaned up the scene. The highway is estimated to reopen by Wednesday evening.
The cause of the crash is not yet determined. It is not known if drugs or alcohol factored into the incident.
