BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The City of Buffalo’s planning board approved site design plans on Monday for the YMCA’s “Camp Swan” project in North Buffalo.
The outdoor camp will be located on Elmwood Avenue near Hertel Avenue, and its construction comes after the YMCA’s longstanding branch on Delaware Avenue closed in April. The Delaware Avenue YMCA had been open for close to a century but was forced to close due to significant financial losses and deferred maintenance costs.
The “Camp Swan” project is set to be built on a seven-acre site and will include outdoor courts, a pool, an outdoor theater with a stage, and “activity barns” for indoor activities. It is expected to have the capacity to accommodate 300 campers.

Construction on the new facility is expected to start at the end of the year.
