Solskjaer the latest to lose his job

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the fifth Premier League manager to lose his job this season when Manchester United parted ways with their club legend on Sunday morning.

He follows in the footsteps of Xisco Munoz, Nuno Espirito Santo, Dean Smith and Daniel Farke, who have all been relieved of their duties in the first three months of the season.

It was Munoz’s replacement at Watford, Claudio Ranieri, who ultimately sealed Solskjaer’s doom, with a 4-1 win over the Red Devils at Vicarage Road,

While it feels as though it has come months too late, it is ultimately the only decision that was left open to the Manchester United hierarchy after a terrible run of form that has seen them slip from 3rd to 8th place in the top flight, and now sit 12 points off league leaders Chelsea.

Now, attention turns to a potential replacement.

Rodgers latest to distance himself

Brendan Rodgers has this afternoon become the latest boss to distance himself from the possibility of taking the role.

He follows in the footsteps of Erik Ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julien Lopetegui, all of whom have spoken to the media to reiterate their happiness in their current roles.

Now, Rodgers has done the same.

In a statement via Football Daily, the Leicester City boss said:

I don’t take it as anything. It’s not real. There’s always gossip and that will be there until they appoint a full-time manager.

‘My commitment is to here. The culture here is about the development of the players, and that’s where I see it, even moreso in this period.

‘I respect you guys have stories to do and to create a narrative, but that doesn’t include me.’

With another name out of the running, the Red Devils are themselves running short of available options to take the job.
