(CNN) – A mechanical glitch prompted in the recall of more than 70,000 BMWs.

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the electric drive motor software in these cars could shut down, resulting in a loss of drive power.
The recall includes certain I4, I5, I7 and IX models.
Officials say BMW dealers will fix the problem free of charge.
