Midtown Alliance is developing a plan to expand east-west multimodal connectivity in Midtown on 3rd Street between Piedmont Avenue west to the end of 3rd Street at the 3rd Street tunnel under I-75/85.
Pending future action by Georgia Tech, the 3rd Street tunnel may one day be reopened to provide a connection to bicycle and pedestrian facilities west of the interstate on Georgia Tech’s campus, according to Midtown Alliance.
Bicycle lanes are currently in place on 3rd Street between Peachtree and West Peachtree Streets. The new project proposes extending the 3rd Street bike lanes, providing additional protection for cyclists and people using micromobility devices such as scooters.
A drop-in public meeting hosted by Midtown Alliance to discuss the project and answer questions is set for Wednesday, July 9, from 5-7 p.m. at the corner of 3rd and Cypress streets.
In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be rescheduled to Thursday, July 10.
In other Midtown street news, roadway paving and bike lane installation on Juniper Street is underway as the complete street improvement project enters its final stage. Expect intermittent lane closures on the corridor.
