NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A stormy pattern will stick around across southeast Louisiana through the weekend, as a weather system lingers over the region and slowly drifts south into the Gulf of Mexico. With winds off the Gulf pulling in plenty of moisture, conditions will stay hot, humid, and unsettled.
On Thursday and Friday, scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected, especially during the afternoon and evening. Some storms could bring heavy downpours, gusty winds, and localized street flooding, so it’s a good idea to keep an umbrella handy and allow extra time if you’ll be driving around town.
As we move into the weekend, rain chances remain in place, but the coverage of storms may start to decrease slightly by late Sunday. The timing of the storms will be similar, with the greatest chances during the late afternoon and early evening hours. Mornings may offer a better window for outdoor activities before showers begin to develop.
Temperatures will stay warm and muggy, with highs in the lower 90s and overnight lows in the upper 70s. By early next week, slightly cooler and drier air may begin to filter in as the system shifts farther south, bringing some relief from the heat and humidity.
In short, expect stormy afternoons through the weekend, with the best chance for a little drying trend beginning late Sunday into next week.
