PINEVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Bell County woman is facing animal cruelty charges after deputies say she abandoned several kittens in a box along Belcher Road.
According to a Facebook post by the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy was alerted early Tuesday morning by a woman who messaged him about kittens left inside a box on the roadside in the Arjay community. The woman had seen photos posted by a man who found the box while on his way to a meeting Monday evening and tried unsuccessfully to catch the kittens after they escaped.
The woman who contacted the deputy told him she later went to the scene and was able to recover six of the kittens. Deputies say the box left at the scene had a label with the name and address of 43-year-old Jessica Belcher of Pineville, who lives on the same road.
That afternoon, a deputy went to Belcher’s residence, spoke with her, and arrested her. She was booked into the Bell County Detention Center and charged with second-degree cruelty to animals.
