This week on Behind The Lens, in a striking move, the Louisiana Legislature seeks to forever complicate Louisiana’s transition toward renewable energy, with a bill passed last week which redefines natural gas, a fossil fuel, as “green energy” and instructs state utilities to use energy generated by hydrocarbons. (Gov. Jeff Landry signed the bill after the podcast was recorded.)
Three new proposed chemical plants could more than quadruple ammonia production in Ascension Parish, according to a new report from Rural Roots and the Louisiana Bucket Brigade.
And a study published in Environmental Science & Technology, examines what air pollutants are doing to a pregnant woman’s body that could trigger early labor. The research comes as the Trump administration signals that it wants to roll back standards governing the release of particulate matter known as PM2.5.
Our guests this week are The New Lede reporter Brian Bienkowski, and Lens reporters Delaney Dryfoos and Marta Jewson.
