Bar Harbor plans to resume normal public business hours on Friday after a cybersecurity attack last week that forced the town to disconnect municipal systems from the internet.
Since the July 30 attack, the town said it has worked with cybersecurity experts to secure our systems, including taking many offline as a precaution.
The town hired the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike to lead an independent investigation, and on Wednesday reported that its data collection process is about 80 percent complete with a final audited report expected as soon as next week.
That report will explain what happened and whether any sensitive information was compromised, according to the town.
“We’ve received interim updates from CrowdStrike but are holding back public statements until their full, verified report is complete. It’s important that our communications be based on confirmed facts, not speculation,” the town said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
