Six people died in a plane crash Sunday, according to a Bangor Police Department spokesperson, disputing an earlier total reported by the federal government.
A business jet crashed at the Bangor International Airport around 7:45 p.m. Sunday. The jet flipped over and caught fire as it was taking off, according to federal authorities and air traffic controller recordings.
There were six people listed on the flight manifest and all are presumed deceased, Bangor police spokesperson Jeremy Brock said Monday at 1:30 p.m.
Bangor police and the airport put out the statement Monday after unverified and unvetted reports started circulating about the crash, Brock said. It came about three hours after the Federal Aviation Authority released its preliminary report, which said seven people died in the crash and one person was seriously injured.
No one was taken from the crash to the hospital, Brock said.
There are “numerous agencies” at the state and federal level that need to coordinate for the investigation, Brock said.
“With the large number of stakeholders involved, it is important that we don’t release any information until all parties have completed their work and can confirm the information being released,” he said.
Identities of the people on board are not being released, pending positive identification, he said.
