Multiple members of a Santa Clarita girls hockey team were injured in Colorado after an out-of-control snow plow slammed into their sprinter van on Thursday, killing an adult traveling with the team and leaving one of the players in critical condition, authorities said. The crash occurred at 8:54 a.m. when the plow driver, traveling westbound in snowy weather, slammed through the median of Interstate 70 and into oncoming eastbound traffic where it collided with a sprinter van carrying the team, knocking it down an embankment, according to the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the sprinter van died…
With less than two weeks remaining in the offseason, most of the moves involving the Yankees bullpen this winter have been departures. As in two former closers, Devin Williams and Luke Weaver, heading to Queens and a handful of other relievers being nontendered. While some of those may be viewed as additions by subtraction, the Yankees are still going to have to cover those high-leverage innings somehow, even if they have yet to bring in any new established options — more or less banking on their pitching department to work its magic once again. Fernando Cruz throws a pitch during…
Internal migration across Switzerland’s linguistic borders sometimes tests local integration. In the canton of Fribourg, growing numbers of French-speakers are settling in German-speaking municipalities, drawn by cheaper housing and proximity to the canton’s capital. Tentlingen – source: Wikipedia In villages such as Giffers and Tentlingen, construction has boomed in recent years. Many newcomers come from the French-speaking part of the canton. Municipal offices have adapted pragmatically: in Tentlingen, around half of staff speak French. Requests for documents in French are increasingly common, though the authorities insist the…

Another winter storm may be headed toward the East Coast this weekend, on the heels of the powerful and deadly system that blanketed huge swaths of the country in snow and ice and killed dozens. Kristian Campbell was one of the most exciting players in the sport at this time a year ago. Baseball America had ranked him the #4 prospect in MLB on the heels of a .330/.439/.558 showing in the minors. Campbell was generally viewed alongside or even slightly above Marcelo Mayer as the Red Sox’s second-best prospect behind Roman Anthony. The organization seemed to share that assessment, as they built their trade package for Garrett Crochet around Kyle Teel and Braden Montgomery rather than including anyone in their top three. Campbell broke camp despite a mediocre Spring Training performance. He started at second base on Opening…
