A man sprayed US Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with an unidentified substance during a town hall meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Tuesday, in what authorities described as a targeted attack amid escalating tensions in the city. Omar, who is of Somali origin, represents Minnesota, which has been the site of repeated clashes between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and the general public after US President Donald Trump ordered an operation in the city to target immigrants. The lawmaker appeared visibly shaken following the attack, but remained on stage and continued speaking for about 25 minutes after security tackled the assailant…

United States residents are doing better financially than they were 50 years ago, according to a new analysis by the Urban Institute. Or so it appears. The median U.S. household makes $77,719, $18,790 more than the median household of 1970. That’s an increase of 31.9% over five decades after adjusted for inflation. Still, economic growth varies widely between different states. The state with the highest growth was Utah, with median income rising 78% since 1970, up to $93,421, the Urban Institute reported. Louisiana saw growth but less of it. The state’s median household earned $58,229 in 2023, a 25.8% increase…
The box of tissues was strategically placed on the podium within reach of Rick Rizzs’ right hand. It took just 34 seconds for him to reach for it for the first time during his formal retirement announcement Wednesday morning.“I was gonna try not to use this,” Rizzs said, nudging the box away. There were a few tears, to be sure. Some from Rizzs himself. Others from the Mariners luminaries in attendance to celebrate a storied career spanning Rizzs’ 51 years as a professional baseball broadcaster, 40 of them in Seattle.Much like his radio broadcasts, the retirement news conference was filled with…
The Yankees added a hard-throwing right-hander to their bullpen Wednesday, trading for Angel Chivilli from the Rockies. The 23-year-old Chivilli spent parts of the past two seasons in the majors with Colorado, putting up some ugly numbers in 43 appearances in 2025. But the Yankees are no doubt intrigued by Chivilli’s elite velocity, as well as his swing-and-miss stuff and ability to get ground balls, even though that hasn’t translated to success in the majors. He’ll be in the mix for a bullpen spot after the Yankees lost Luke Weaver and Devin Williams to the Mets in free agency, with…

Bettmann/Contributor/Bettmann via Getty ImagesForty years ago, I was at Mission Control at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center for the launch of the Challenger. I was working in data communications. My job was to ensure all telemetry links between the space shuttle and NASA’s ground communications system (NASCOM) were operational. Everything was green on my board, the shuttle launched, and a few seconds later, everything went to hell. I stared at my controls, tried to get things to reconnect, and then I finally looked up at the TV display. You know what I saw. We all saw it that day.In schools across the country,…
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Contrary to popular belief, measuring snow is a science. Going to the nearest pile of snow in your front yard and sticking a ruler in it can be inaccurate because of divots, bumps, and uneven accumulation, so one spot may measure three feet of snow while another spot measures six inches.
