ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — One of the former firefighters accused of raping a woman took the stand on Monday. The trial stems back to two years ago when a woman called police to tell them she was sexually assaulted by a group of men at one of their homes.
Aden Heyman recounts what he says happened leading up to the moment a woman jumped out a bathroom window and ran away. Heyman, along with Anthony Martin and Angel Portillo, are accused of taking part in the rape of a woman at an off-duty party at Martin’s house in 2023. That woman told jurors she blacked out, and when she came to, she was being sexually assaulted.
Heyman testified in the trial against Martin and himself, saying the entire encounter was consensual. He says the indications were “verbal, visual, and physical,” telling the court he did not believe the victim was severely impaired or blacked out. In cross examination, Heyman admitted it was his first encounter with the woman. When Heyman was asked if he knew how the woman behaves without alcohol, he admitted he did not.
Angel Portillo’s trial is scheduled for September. Closing arguments in Martin and Heyman’s trial are scheduled for Tuesday.
