FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. – A man from Austin, Tx., drowned Sunday afternoon in the Meramec River.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the drowning happened around 2:50 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the Meramec River, near Meramec State Park.
The drowning occurred after the man entered the water from a raft, MSHP said. At some point, the man went below the water and never resurfaced.
The man, a 20-year-old from Austin, Tx., was later located and recovered by the MSHP Marine Division using sonar technology, according to MSHP.
The man was not wearing a lifejacket at the time of the drowning, MSHP said.
