Saul has reportedly agreed to sign for Flamengo just hours after his proposed move to Trabzonspor collapsed.
The midfielder has left Atletico Madrid following a 17-year stay at the Spanish giants having terminated his contract.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Saul had reached a verbal agreement with Turkish side Trabzonspor regarding a summer switch.
However, the 30-year-old is no longer moving to Turkey.
Saul took to social media to reveal why his Trabzonspor transfer won’t be completed in a bizarre post.
“It didn’t work out because of some personal stuff. Hope our paths will cross again one day,” he said on X.
Instead, Romano has reported that Saul will head to Brazil and sign for Flamengo.
He has verbally agreed to a three-year deal at the club, who reached the Club World Cup last 16 this summer.
Flamengo are managed by ex-Chelsea and Atletico defender Filipe Luis, who has won three trophies since becoming head coach in 2024.
The Flamengo boss and Saul played 142 times together over the course of six seasons at Atleti.
Also at Flamengo is Saul’s former Chelsea teammate Jorginho, who joined as a free agent upon the expiry of his contract at Arsenal.
Saul joined the Real Madrid academy at the age off 11 before moving to their city rivals Atletico in 2008.
He made 427 senior appearances for the club, the ninth most in their history, scoring 48 goals and assisting a further 26.
The Spaniard joined Chelsea on loan for the 2021/22 season with the option for a permanent switch afterwards.
Saul featured 23 times for the Blues and won the Club World Cup during his time in west London.
However, he did not complete a permanent move and returned to Atletico ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Throughout his stay in the Spanish capital, Saul has won LaLiga and two Europa League titles.
Saul was also a Euros U19 winner with Spain in 2012 before earning 19 senior caps for his country.
He will now join a Flamengo side who are second in the Brazilian Serie A behind Cruzeiro EC.
Their league season ends on December 21, with Flamengo eyeing an eighth title.
