ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – This week on New Mexico Crime Files, KRQE Anchors Dean Staley and Jessica Garate start with a crime that is all too common here in our state, DWI driving on the wrong side of the road. Back in April of 2022, a Farmington police officer received a report of a Toyota Corolla going over 100 mph coming his way. What he finds is an impaired 80-year-old George Platero driving down the wrong lane. The shocking fact we learned about this older man’s record with DWIs and how he will spend what may be his final days.
Then, New Mexico State Police spot a suspect with warrants for aggravated battery and fleeing at a gas station. That’s when 40-year-old Pedro Griego realized the police had recognized him and decided to run. After swiping his partner with the getaway truck, drawing a single gunshot from police, he makes a run for it, taking officers on a chase down a highway and dirt roads.
Finally, the episode concludes with a burglary story from 2010. Paul Henry, Breana Gallegos, and Berandette Savedra successfully broke into a smoke shop by chaining and ripping off a security door; they didn’t consider that it would be the same door that would lead the police right to them and the stolen goods.
