A Mason Mount Chelsea contract update has emerged on Wednesday.

Mount’s Chelsea stint

Mason Mount has been a key cog in Chelsea’s side since former boss Frank Lampard took the reins.

The Englishman had spent the previous season on loan in the Championship with Lampard’s Derby County.

In turn, upon ‘Lamps’ being named Chelsea boss for the 2019/20 season, he opted to instantly hand Mount a starting berth.

This seemed like a bold move at the time, given the midfielder’s lack of top-flight experience, but to say that it has since worked out well would be putting it lightly.

Mount has become an essential part of both Chelsea and England’s setup over the last couple of years and, of course, laid on the Blues’ Champions League final-winning goal versus Manchester City back in May.

Mason Mount contract update

So, with Mason Mount clearly a key cog at Chelsea right now, it what somewhat surprising when it was reported recently that Mount had grown ‘frustrated’, and was feeling ‘underappreciated’ at Chelsea. The reason for this was said to be his treatment compared to other high-profile stars at the club.

It was added that Mount believes he is still being treated as a youth team player in comparison to mega-money stars brought to Stamford Bridge in recent years.

Though not confirmed, this seemed to imply that Mount was perhaps not too happy with his current contract in regards to some other big players at Chelsea.

Now though, a fresh Mason Mount contract update has emerged that seems to put this rumour to bed for now.

The Telegraph report that Mount, who is contracted to the Blues until 2024, is yet to hold talks with Chelsea over a new contract, with the 22-year-old said to be currently prioritising Chelsea’s push for more trophies over his own future.

When then, could Chelsea look to open contract talks with Mount?

Well, the Telegraph report that:

There is an expectation that Chelsea, most likely towards the end of the season, will start talks over an extension to his deal but there is no rush or sense of panic from either the player or the club.
