NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Living in Louisiana we all know the importance of stocking up on water for storms but purchasing water bottles year after year can get pricey and stores even run out of water.
WGNO’s Kenny Lopez tells you about a new water generator which could provide some relief when storms strike.
“When a hurricane comes or something comes, the first thing that’s empty on shelves is bottled water,” said Altitude Water founder Jeff Szur.
There’s always a need for water during and after a storm so that’s why Jeff Szur, the founder of Altitude Water created a water generator with his dad here in Louisiana.
“To sum it all up for everyone it is basically a dehumidifier on steroids. What we do is tap into the natural water cycle we all learned in seventh grade with evaporation and precipitation,” Szur said.
Their water generators take water from the air to make more water.
“We’re tapping into a 3.8 quadrillion aquifer of pure water that hasn’t got the pollution that ground water has,” he said.
“Our Trident-12 machine will generate between 4 and 15 gallons per day depending on the temperature and humidity. In Louisiana you’ll basically be making about 10 gallons a day,” Szur said.
Altitude Water generators are designed for homes, offices, spas, and clinics but when a storm strikes they bring disaster relief like they did when Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina.
“Our larger machines can make 135 gallons to 370 gallons a day,” he said.
They cost about $4,000, but they are working on a rental program.
“We can do a rental program for $190 a month that would equate to them buying water at 4 to 8 cents a gallon. People are used to spending $2 a time, they don’t think about it adding up. You’re basically becoming a resilient family that doesn’t have to worry that water or grocery shelves are empty because you can make your own water,” Szur said.
