WWE Superstar Aliyah has been cleared to return to in-ring action, but the company is holding her out. What’s up?
It appears Aliyah is nearly ready to make her return to WWE. After going down with an injury and having to miss some time following the loss of the Women’s Tag Team Championships, Aliyah is cleared to return to action, even if it’s not clear what plans the company has for her at the moment.
In the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Aliyah is ready to return. She’s been out of action with rib and shoulder injuries since the September 12 edition of Raw and he writes, “Aliyah is cleared to return after being put on the sidelines with an injury which led to Shotzi taking her spot on the Smackdown women’s depth charts and going babyface.” He adds that there is no storyline set for Aliyah due to the needed change in plans and the fact she wasn’t figured into the Survivor Series event.
WWE may have to go back to the drawing board with this WWE Superstar. She was teamed with Raquel Rodriguez and won the tag team titles, but she was clearly booked as the weak link of the team. There was potentially an opening there for her to turn heel, but on paper, she’s not much of a match for the bigger Rodriguez. At the same time, Shotzi has effectively filled in the role Aliyah was supposed to take on.
No Reason To Bring Her Back Until They Have A Plan
Ringside News is reporting that they asked around about Aliyah’s status and why she isn’t being used if healthy. The response they got was that WWE didn’t want to, “feed her to someone for someone to go over on her.” One has to wonder if maybe she’s a better fit for NXT, especially with the news that Mandy Rose and Toxic Attraction might be ready to make the jump to the main roster.
