ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A jury has found a man guilty of an armed robbery turned murder more than three years ago. Bobby Lopez was convicted for the January 2022 murder of Anjel Varela. According to court documents, Lopez and two other women lured Varela to an apartment complex for a fake drug deal in order to rob him. That’s when police say Lopez killed Varela using the victim’s gun.
The Bernalillo County District Attorney said Lopez is a known member of the Los Padillas gang in the South Valley. He now faces a life sentence plus 15 years behind bars. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
