FTR has been on an incredible run over the last year as they’ve found success in AEW, ROH, AAA, and NJPW, but it looks like not all is well within the group as their contract is coming to an end sooner than expected. One would think that any brand would do their best to keep them, but will this be the case?
While speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Dax Harwood said that he’s under the belief their current AEW contract ends at the end of April 2023, and initially, the tag team thought they’d be up last year. Many hope to see them go back to WWE after the CM Punk drama.
He said he’s evaluating options and that he and Cash Wheeler have had a lot of conversations about their future. This may shock the AEW fans who feel that the two should be staying in AEW, but bigger pictures may be on the horizon.
One particular idea they’ve talked about is that they could take a year off of wrestling for major companies and just do things that are fun to them. Harwood said that having the opportunity to work more indies and various companies have led them to find out how much they love that landscape.
FTR joined AEW in May 2020 after having their WWE release granted. The tag team currently holds the AAA World Tag Team, IWGP Tag Team, and ROH World Tag Team Titles, certainly taking on the world one title at a time. Is this the end of their current run when we hit their contract end? It’s hard to tell as it seems that they still want to grow and continue forward – but it’s hard to tell where that will be and where they will end up next, should they choose to go anywhere else at all.
