AEW Collision Results:
Trios Action to Start the Show
Hiromu Takahashi & Skyflight vs. Don Callis Family
- Takahashi and Skyflight walk out on top here in a fun opening, with Takahashi hitting his finisher on Romero here for the relatively quick win.
Winner – Hiromu Takahashi & Skyfly
After the match, Kyle Fletcher appeared on the ramp, holding his TNT Championship high in the sky. He and Takahashi stared each other down ahead of their match at Forbidden Door.
Grade: B+
A solid opener all around, all things considered. Really felt like more of a tune-up for Takahashi ahead of his match against Fletcher than anything, though.
Isla Dawn Debuts in the ring
Isla Dawn vs. Megan Bayne
- Dawn got a loud ovation for her debut, but didn’t have a good time in the ring itself. Bayne was simply too much for the star, and won after a dominant performance.
Winner – Megan Bayne
Grade: C+
Dawn’s debut was fun, but not really what you want to see from a first match. Bayne is made out to be an unstoppable force, though, and did more than enough to show that off.
Willow Nightingale & Queen Aminata Team Up For Tag Action
Skye Blue & Julia Hart vs. Willow Nightingale and Queen Aminata
- Nightingale and Aminata came out to the ring pretty much immediately after Bayne’s win, and that energy transferred to the ring. They got the win after Aminata dropped Blue with a big slam and pin.
Winner – Willow Nightingale and Queen Aminata
After the match, chaos broke out, as Thekla came running out to attack Aminata. Nightingale makes the save for her teammate, but then Megan Bayne comes back out with Penelope Ford to ambush the pair. This brings out Harley Cameron, who runs in to a huge ovation and makes the save by clearing the ring.
Grade: B+
A fun tag team match and a chaotic post-match scrum, that’s the good stuff right there. The build-up for Cameron has been great to see, and it’ll be interesting to see where this goes.
Max Caster’s Open Challenge Ends in Chaos
It’s that time again, folks. Max Caster is here and he once again is taking shots at the home crowd and those who dare to challenge him. He leads the crowd in a chant that he doesn’t love too much, but starts the clock anyway. In a surprise, out comes Zack Sabre Jr., who will be facing commentary member Nigel McGuinness at Forbidden Door.
Max Caster vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
- In unsurprising fashion, Sabre is the winner here, taking about half of the clock to do so. After the win, he stares down McGuinness for a bit.
Winner – Zack Sabre Jr.
After the match, Caster’s former friend and tag team partner Anthony Bowens comes out and ambushes Caster. The crowd is booing as Bowens goes after Caster, and then out comes Billy Gun. Gunn storms down to the ring and confronts Bowens, and the two get face-to-face, but Bowens leaves before anything more can happen.
Grade: B-
Whoa, a surprising development in the story of Caster and Bowens. Bowens getting angry about Caster last week set the stage for this, but it was nice to see the pair’s story get some more push here instead of just a typical Caster open challenge.
Backstage, Statlander and Harley Cameron are talking about how Statlander still hasn’t gotten her $100,000 from last week yet. She said usually, the money comes from the Young Bucks’ accounts, but it keeps returning as “insufficient funds.” Cameron says she’ll get to the bottom of it, then storms into a room for “male extras.” After coming back out, Cameron says the group said no, and to wait until next week.
A dejected Statlander was ready to walk off when Jon Moxley and the Riders show up. Moxley silently storms into the room himself. Everyone is standing around awkwardly when Moxley comes out holding an envelope of cash for Statlander. Yuta tries to talk but is ushered off, and says he’ll talk to Statlander soon.
Konosuke Takeshita and Tomohiro Ishii Clash
Konosuke Takeshita vs. Tomohiro Ishii
- Ishii got a huge ovation when he came out tonight, but unfortunately for him, he couldn’t capitalize inside the ring. Takeshita looked great just a week after his performance in the G1 Climax, and won this won with a clean finish.
Winner – Konosuke Takeshita
Grade: B+
This one wasn’t anything too special, but it was a lot of fun. The reception for Ishii was really cool, and Takeshita and Ishii both clearly have respect for one another given how they performed in the ring.
Big Bill in Action
Big Bill vs. Mark Andrews
- Big Bill absolutely dominated in his win against the former WWE star here.
Winner – Big Bill
Grade: C-
I mean, this was just nothing but a squash. Nothing more to it.
GOA and GYV Go At It
GOA vs. Grizzled Young Veterans
- Unsurprisingly, the Gates of Agony take this one. Ricochet’s new group continues to dominate, and did so again here with a quick win.
Winner – Gates of Agony
Grade: C-
Another relatively quick squash match, which is a bit of a surprise. Still, though, Gates of Agony continue to look extremely good in AEW.
Backstage, Gabe Kidd is explaining why he’s aligned himself with the Death Riders and The Bullet Club War Dogs. He said he’s tired of “the game,” and all the fakes and phonies that are taking food and money off of their tables.
Kidd calls it a joke, and said he had to call up some “real dogs” to take care of some “bitches.” It seems like the War Dogs will be ready for action at Forbidden Door.
Young Bucks Highlight AEW Collision’s Main Event
It’s time for the main event. The Young Bucks come out and are jokingly introduced as “Rod and Todd,” something that irks them extremely before things start.
The Young Bucks vs. Paragon
- The Young Bucks were thiiiiiis close to losing via submission, but Don Callis and Kazuchika Okada made sure they didn’t. Callis interfered late to distract the ref, and Okada aided the Bucks in dropping Roderick Strong.
Winner – The Young Bucks
After the win, the Bucks and Okada begin to gloat, but Swerve Strickland’s music hits. He comes out and Okada bails. Strickland counters a double kick from the Bucks and drops them, but as he’s readying another move, Okada slips back into the ring and chop blocks Strickland.
Okada and the Bucks beat up Strickland for a bit before Okada nails him with a Rainmaker.
Grade: A-
Really fun match here, and an even more fun finish. Can’t wait to see Strickland and Okada go at it.
AEW Collision Review:
This wasn’t the best show, but it was probably never going to be with Forbidden Door less than 24 hours away. We got some great development for future feuds, though, and some fun moments. That’s all you can ask for.
