To mark the Year of the Horse, Lululemon has teamed up with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, brand ambassador and actor Yilong Zhu, and Chinese ice-dancing duo Junfei Ren and Jianing Xing for a new short film, Spring Repeats, Yet It’s Always New.
The film anchors the brand’s third consecutive ‘Be Spring’ campaign, which explores a simple but enduring idea: that renewal often comes from repetition. Spring may return every year, but the way it’s felt—through movement, work or routine—is never quite the same.
First launched in 2023, Be Spring sits within Lululemon’s broader Thrive Together (#一起好状态#) platform. In 2024, the brand collaborated with Michelle Yeoh and dancers from the stage production Wing Chun to explore ideas of inner spring and body unity. This year, the thinking evolves again with Back to Spring (#回到春天#), framed around hope and renewal, and the line: “Return to the state of your beginnings, like spring, and set off again.”
At the heart of the latest chapter is Yo-Yo Ma’s lifelong relationship with Bach’s Prelude from Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major—a piece built on repetition, progression and quiet transformation.
Yo-Yo Ma said, “I’ve been learning and playing Bach’s Prelude in G Major since I was four. To me, it’s never just a piece of music. It represents infinitude—the idea of repetition and constant change. What I love about spring is that it always comes back. Each time, it feels new. In repetition, we find and feel the extraordinary within the ordinary. That’s the coded message spring sends to us.”
Set to Ma’s cello, the short film layers mirrored visuals and recurring movements of individuals from different walks of life as they move through familiar roles. Zhu’s performance sits alongside Ren and Xing’s perfect ice-dance choreography that builds the idea that repetition is a space where something new can emerge.
The film closes with the lines: “In repetition, discover what feels new—that is spring. Spring repeats, yet it’s always new.”
As in previous years, the campaign is supported by Lululemon’s Lunar New Year capsule collection. The Year of the Horse range features vivid colour palettes, ink-wash-inspired artwork, zodiac motifs and gold embroidery.
