Premier League clubs have spent big again this summer in pursuit of success. Ahead of the opening fixtures of the 2025/26 season, we’ve picked a best XI of the new arrivals.
A best XI of Premier League transfers this summer
Goalkeeper: Caoimhin Kelleher – Brentford
After building a reputation as the Premier League’s best number two at Liverpool, Caoimhin Kelleher now has the chance to be a regular first choice. The Irishman has signed for Brentford in a deal worth an initial £12.5m, in what looks like brilliant business for the Bees. He replaces Mark Flekken following the Dutchman’s transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.

Right-back: Jeremie Frimpong – Liverpool
Jeremie Frimpong has joined Liverpool with the task of replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Dutchman differs in style from Alexander-Arnold, but has been one of Europe’s most effective attacking wing-backs in his own right at Bayer Leverkusen. Full of pace and desire to get forward, Frimpong should be an exciting watch.
Centre-back: Cristhian Mosquera – Arsenal
Mikel Arteta just loves signing defenders, and Arsenal’s acquisition of Cristhian Mosquera is his latest addition. The Spaniard has caught the eye in pre-season and will hope to push William Saliba and Gabriel for a first-team place.
Centre-back: Bafode Diakite – Bournemouth
Bournemouth have faced an unenviable task this summer in rebuilding almost their entire backline. Dean Huijsen and Illya Zabarnyi have both departed for European giants for huge fees, leaving the Cherries short at centre-back.
Bafode Diakite has arrived from Lille for a £34m fee. The 24-year-old ranked in Ligue 1’s top players for pass completion, aerials won, and percentage of aerials won last season.
Left-back: Milos Kerkez – Liverpool
Another of the Bournemouth exodus, Milos Kerkez, swapped the south coast for Liverpool. The Hungarian’s endless energy has been recruited as Liverpool look for a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson.
Midfield: Martin Zubimendi – Arsenal
Having snubbed a switch to the Premier League last summer, Martin Zubimendi made the move to England this time around.
The Spaniard has signed for Arsenal for around £51m, where he’ll be tasked with conducting the club’s play from the base of the midfield. A Euro 2024 winner with Spain, he’ll form part of a formidable engine room alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.
Midfield: Tijjani Reijnders – Manchester City
Manchester City’s central issues were apparent last season as Pep Guardiola’s side were routinely exposed in midfield.
Rodri’s return will help, as will the addition of Tijjani Reinjders. The Dutchman was voted Serie A’s Best Midfielder in 2024/25, despite a disappointing collective campaign for AC Milan.

Midfield: Florian Wirtz – Liverpool
Liverpool have broken the bank this summer with Florian Wirtz becoming the Premier League’s most expensive player.
The champions have signed the midfielder in a deal that could reach £116m, including add-ons. After successive campaigns as the Bundesliga’s Player of the Year, Wirtz is a hugely exciting arrival.

Right-wing: Bryan Mbeumo – Manchester United
Perhaps sensibly, Manchester United have targeted Premier League-proven talent to fix their goalscoring woes from last season. Mbeumo scored 20 goals in the division for Brentford, adding a further seven assists.
Left-wing: Matheus Cunha – Manchester United
Another of the new faces at Old Trafford and another coming off the back of a career-best campaign.
Cunha scored 15 times in the league for Wolves last season and created six more. Between them, Mbeumo and Cunha were directly involved in 48 Premier League goals. Ruben Amorim’s side scored just 44 between them all season.
Forward: Viktor Gyokeres – Arsenal
Arsenal’s need for a striker has been well-documented, and Viktor Gyokeres is the man the Gunners hope can fire them to title success. Several exciting strikers have moved to Premier League clubs this summer, but none with the goal record of Gyokeres. A return of 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting Lisbon has raised the excitement at the Emirates.
