INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Crisp overnights and mild afternoons are in store for the next several days.
Today:
Temperatures are running much cooler across most of central Indiana this morning. Many outlying areas are falling into the low 50s, challenging some local records.
Beautiful weather continues today with mostly sunny skies and below-average temperatures. There is a very slight chance of an isolated shower in the far northeastern corner of the state.
High temperatures will reach the low to mid-70s this afternoon.
Tonight:
Cool, if not chilly, temperatures are expected overnight. Lows will fall to the mid and upper 40s outside the Indy metro area and around 50 in the city. A few records may be challenged again across central Indiana, especially in outlying areas.
Wednesday – Friday:
Seasonably cool temperatures are expected to continue for the second half of the week. Look for mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, light winds, and low humidity. Highs will reach the mid-70s on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
On Thursday, a weak upper-level wave will move through the northern portion of the state, which could produce a few spotty showers or a rumble of thunder late in the afternoon into the evening. Most areas will remain dry.
Labor Day weekend:
High pressure will remain overhead for the holiday weekend. Expect mostly sunny to, at worst, partly cloudy skies with relatively light winds all three days. Temperatures will start in the mid-70s on Saturday and could rise slightly on Sunday and Monday, approaching 80° as the holiday weekend wraps up.
Next week:
There are some indications that temperatures may return to near-average levels by the middle of next week, but the overall trend is cooler-than-average conditions for much of the central United States as we head into September.
