Sexual assault and robbery occurred in Rome suburbs.
A 60-year-old Italian woman was raped and robbed of her phone in a park in the eastern outskirts of Rome while out walking her dog early on Sunday morning.
An investigation is under way into the incident which reportedly happened shortly after 06.00 in Tor Tre Teste Park in the Alessandrino district.
The woman, who lives near the scene of the attack, was taken to the Casilino hospital.
Carabinieri police are studying security footage from the area in a bid to track down the woman’s attacker, described by Italian media as “black” and possibly foreign, who fled after stealing her phone.
One line of enquiry being followed is that the suspect was one of many homeless people who frequent the park, with investigators reportedly seeking to locate him by tracking the route of the phone stolen from the victim.
