The City of Dunwoody will host a free Kids Bike Safety Rodeo on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8-10 a.m. at Brook Run Park, offering young cyclists ages 5-14 essential safety skills in an interactive environment.
The drop-in event, located near the skate park at 4770 North Peachtree Rd., invites families to bring their bikes and helmets for comprehensive safety training that builds confidence and teaches real-world riding skills, according to a release from the city. Children must be able to ride without training wheels to participate.
“This rodeo gives kids the tools they need to ride safely while having a blast,” Joe Seconder, Dunwoody city council member, said. “We’re creating confident, safety-minded young cyclists who can enjoy biking throughout our community.”
Event highlights include:
- Interactive skill stations teaching bike handling and safety techniques;
- Road sign recognition and hand signal instruction;
- Fun obstacle course to practice new skills;
- Free helmet fit checks with complimentary helmets available while supplies last;
- Basic bike mechanical inspections to ensure safe equipment;
- Meet-and-greet opportunities with local police officers and bike safety volunteers.
Each participant will receive a certificate of completion signed by city officials, and snacks and refreshments will be provided throughout the morning.
Following the rodeo, families can join a community bike ride on the Dunwoody Trailway—a relaxed group ride perfect for practicing newly learned skills in a real-world setting.
Parents must supervise their children and should bring working bicycles, helmets, water bottles, and closed-toe shoes, the release said. The event is designed for confident young riders ready to learn practical safety skills.
The Kids Bike Safety Rodeo is made possible through partnerships with the City of Dunwoody Parks & Recreation, Dunwoody Police Department, Safe Kids DeKalb, DeKalb Fire Rescue, and the Georgia Safe Routes to School Resource Center.
