AEW star Will Ospreay has provided another update on the status of his neck injury, confirming that he will be undergoing surgery after this Sunday’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view. However, he does not yet have a date for the procedure or a timetable for his return to the ring.
Will Ospreay’s Neck Surgery
Speaking with Screen Off Script in a new interview, Ospreay discussed his impending hiatus. “Yeah, I will have to be going in for surgery after Forbidden Door,” he said. “We haven’t got an exact date, and we don’t know a time frame to come back. As nerve-racking as it is, everybody is comfortable with me going into this match.”
The Will Ospreay Injury Details
Ospreay has been open about the specifics of the injury, which he sustained at the All In: Texas pay-per-view. In a separate interview with Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown, he detailed the diagnosis.
“I am compromised,” Ospreay said. “I’ve got a few herniated discs pushing against my spinal cord, which is affecting a couple of my nerves. But, I can do stuff and I can perform one last time before I need to go get it all corrected… The surgeon even told me that it’s not going to get any worse. It just needs to be corrected.”
Ospreay stated that the AEW medical team would not allow him to compete if there was a significant risk, but he is determined to have “one last time” as himself in front of his hometown crowd in London.
“The Aerial Assassin” is set to compete in the main event of the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view this Sunday, August 24 as he will be part of a ten-man Lights Out Steel Cage match, teaming with The Golden Lovers, Darby Allin, and Hiroshi Tanahashi to take on the team of the Death Riders, The Young Bucks, and Gabe Kidd.
