ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation in downtown Orlando after an Orlando police officer shot and killed an armed man early Friday morning.
Crime scene tape and a heavy police presence are in the Luminary Green Park area near 500 block of Chatham Avenue near Robinson Street.
According to officials, OPD officers were responding to a separate call downtown when a man, possibly homeless they said, charged at officers with a pair of scissors. After ordering the man to stop, officers fired, killing the man.
The man, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene.
Police said there are no larger threats to the area.
Police are advising the public to avoid the Creative Village area near the scene.
