NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A moist, unsettled pattern will continue across southeast Louisiana through Saturday morning as a trough lingers nearby. Southerly winds are pulling deep Gulf moisture inland, setting the stage for scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours Friday. Any storms that form could bring gusty winds up to 40–50 mph, locally heavy downpours, and brief street flooding where rain lingers. Temperatures will hold near the low 90s, with high humidity keeping conditions muggy.
By Saturday, the trough begins sliding south into the Gulf. Storm chances remain in the forecast, but the higher rainfall potential looks to focus south of I-10, leaving areas farther north somewhat drier. Still, a few pop-up storms remain possible with the afternoon heat.
Sunday is shaping up to be the quietest day of the weekend, with fewer showers and longer stretches of sunshine. A couple of stray thunderstorms can’t be ruled out, but overall rain coverage should be lower than earlier in the weekend.
Looking ahead, another front early next week will bring renewed storm chances by Tuesday, followed by a gradual drying trend toward midweek.
